Sincor
Historical Context
The planet where Sincor is located was a diverse place full of islands. Each place had different characteristics, so they were always lacking some resources. For that reason, entire villages sailed the seas looking for fair trade or battles in order to survive.
Another major problem was the lack of materials that would allow automation of tasks, thus increasing production. Taking this into account and thinking that an increase in resources could bring peace and stability to the planet, the guardians decided to bring a resource from Earth that would change everything: cretenia.
On Earth, this material was simply quartz, but when it reached the atmosphere of the new planet, they discovered that it could react to sound by increasing its size, allowing the creation of new machines. But like all discoveries, despite its purpose being peace, weapons were also created from it, sparking conflicts again, but this time more violent. It was at this moment when the adverse effect of cretenia was seen:
During the fights, cretenia dust from the clash between weapons was constant. This dust was harmless on land, but most fights took place at sea, between islands, and the dust reacted with the water, causing its continuous evaporation and subsequent rain. This rain was unlike any they were accustomed to, as it was more viscous and greener than usual, but it seemed to have no further adverse effects.
At the same time, seeing the use that was being made of it, the guardians decided not to extract more of that material and try to negotiate with the different rulers for peace and controlled extraction. It was then, when the conflict momentarily stopped, that the effects of this rain, called gliasco, were seen: the sea was disappearing, and the inhabitants were developing lumps on their bodies. The guardians knew they had to research the material to cure their inhabitants, and with help, they found a vaccine. But the greed of a member of the Sincor government dashed all hope.
This government member kidnapped the guardian of the Earth’s gate to have complete control over the production of cretenia. He destroyed many villages and promised health and wealth to those who followed his doctrines.
World features
Location
Sincor is a mountain with three height levels surrounded by cliffs. It was once an island, but now all the locations in the planet are like isolated plateaus and, in the surface of the planet there’s only lakes with gliasco (toxic residual water).
Inhabitants
The population of Sincor have features that make them human-like: brain, voice, hair, estomach… But they also have different characteristic features: deformations, different number of limbs, different motion capabilities… The value lies in what is different.
Biosphere
The contact between cretenia and water brought to Sincor another component that has affected the planet for the last hundred years: gliasco. This component is very poisonous to most of the beings causing deformations and exhaustion.
However Sincor has a lot of vegetation. Despite the arid weather, plants have managed to add gliasco to its photosynthesis process. Some of them suffered mutations that helped to develop new technology.
There are also more creatures than Krashers and Sniklats in the plateau: lots of bacteria have mutated and some of them are like insects now.
Technology
Sincor has had manually activated mechanic systems for centuries. But two hundred years ago, The Guardians brought to them cretenia: a mineral that reacts to sound waves by increasing its size.
This mineral has been used for several purposes: for the automation of mechanical systems, as a powerful cosmetic and as a powerful weapon.
On the other hand, we have Sincor’s flora, which has mutated. Some plants are now luminescent, others can process gliasco and turn it back into drinking water and other plants offer now more benefits than ever.
Religion
The inhabitants of Sincor have always treated The Guardians with devotion. But, as centuries passed, they became more of a legend. Today, the only religion in Sincor is the devotion to beauty, a cult led by the mayor.
Economy
This region’s economy is mainly based on two factors: food and materials. But there’re also two main diferences between factions: Krashers believe in fair trade and Sniklats believe in taxation and investment.
Conflict
There are two factions in Sincor
Krashers
The Krashers are good people that can be recognised by their mutations, deformations, lumps and hair loss.
These inhabitants of Sincor don’t want to fit in. They don’t think they’re perfect but neither do they believe in life-changing makeovers. Also, the town’s law doesn’t allow physically expressing yourself outside of the beauty canon, so they have to hide and fight for their freedom.
Every Krasher has their own talent and expertise area, but they will need to be together to defeat the current system.
Sniklats
The Sniklats are cute creatures that can be recognised by their roundness, their lack of hair loss and their skin without lumps.
One of them discovered that he could use Earth’s materials to achieve permanent beauty, so he kidnapped The Earth Guardian and promised his followers eternal beauty in exchange for leading the village.
Each kind of Sniklat has its own way of fighting: biting, shooting, smashing, stabbing, hugging,.. And, the final boss, The Mayor, can do everything we mentioned before and much more.
Setting
These are some locations that have been covered in the demo
The ruins
Here dwell the renegades of The Mayor’s system. It’s an area in constant battle, so few houses are still standing and there’s a lot of wild vegetation. Areas to be visited include: the orchard, the hostel, Tynah’s house, Uram’s house, and the tavern.
The Hostel
Shelter where those who have lost their homes, due to the fight against the Sniklats, take refuge. The requirement for staying here is to continue fighting.
The Town
The town is the area controlled by the Sniklats. It’s a beautiful and well-organized area with a lot of beauty canon propaganda. In this area, we’ll explore its streets as well as the music store, the jail, the laboratory, Mandoh’s lair, and the town hall.
The Music Shop
This shop is peculiar because its owner doesn’t comply with The Mayor’s rules. However, since The Mayor enjoys music as a cultural activity, the shop remains standing. It’s a small space where renegades will still be welcomed despite being in the town.
The Guardians
The Guardians are two beings who are seemingly ordinary (they eat, drink, sleep…), but whose birth is uncertain and whose lives are eternal. They have the ability to create doors between two planes: the earthly world and the world of Sincor. Fate determined that one of them would have the ability to create doors in the human world leading to the realm of monsters (Guardian of Sincor), while the other could only create doors in the world of monsters leading to the human world (Guardian of The Earth). This meant they always needed each other to switch between planes without being trapped. They are a couple who, over the centuries, have taken both human and monstrous forms, and their relationship dates back to the time when there was nothing.
With the evolution of both worlds, they learned concepts like affection and love, applying them to their relationship and making them happier. Over the centuries, they came to the conclusion that the more empathy they felt for each other, the more they loved and understood each other. Therefore, they decided to base their existence on being as empathetic as possible with both worlds, bringing as much peace and understanding as they could.
Magic Systems
The guardians
The power of the Guardians is generating interdimensional doors and being eternal. But there are some conditions:
Uram, Guardian of Sincor
He opens the portal from The Earth to Sincor
Morph, Guardian of The Earth
He opens the portal from Sincor to The Earth
They can die if they suffer from a mayor injure but they won’t die from aging
The Cretenia
Cretenia was previously known on Earth as pink quartz. The Guardian of Earth introduced its use to Sincor. Due to the gases and properties of this planet’s atmosphere, quartz turned into cretenia, a substance that reacts with water to create gliasco.
The magic of cretenia is a direct reaction to sound: the higher the decibels, the stone increases in size, and depending on the shape of the mineral and the pitch of the instrument, it changes shape as it grows.
